High-End Style: Real-World Budgets/ The Vision Behind the Decor in Dimes
Hi, I’m Maren Cole, the founder and lead stylist behind Decor in Dimes.
Welcome Home. I’m So Glad You’re Here.
I believe in a simple, radical idea: Your home should look like a million bucks, even if you only have fifty. In today’s world, we are constantly bombarded with digital magazines and social media feeds featuring $10,000 sofas, $5,000 hand-knotted rugs, and custom-built cabinetry that costs more than a car. In addition, for most of us—especially those of us navigating the rental market or starting our first homes—that’s not reality.
Before we talk about floor plans, budget “dimes,” or the latest 2026 trends, I want to start with a simple truth: You deserve a home that feels like a sanctuary, regardless of the balance in your bank account. If you’ve ever walked into your living room and felt a sense of “not enough”—not enough space, not enough budget, or not enough style. I want you to take a deep breath and know that you are in the right place.
My goal isn’t just to help you decorate a room; it’s to help you fall in love with the life you’re living right now. Whether you’re in a tiny rental, a fixer-upper, or your very first “grown-up” apartment, there is so much beauty to be found. Moreover, let’s find it together, one dime at a time.
But here is the truth: Style is not a price tag. It is a set of design principles, a bit of patience, and the ability to spot a “Dime” in a sea of overpriced furniture. Besides this, I started this platform to bridge the gap between high-fashion interiors and everyday affordability.
My Story: From a Narrow Chicago Studio to “Dime” Styling
My journey didn’t start in a design studio; it started in a cramped, 400-square-foot narrow studio apartment in Chicago. I had a shoestring budget, a mountain of student debt, and a living room that felt more like a hallway than a home.
I spent my weekends hunting through West Loop thrift stores, scavenging for “good bones” at estate sales, and staying up until 2:00 AM figuring out how to make an IKEA Billy bookcase look like a custom built-in. Moreover, realized that the “Luxury” look everyone craves is actually just a combination of scale, texture, and intentionality.
Through years of trial and error, I mastered the art of “Dime Styling”—finding the rare, high-quality pieces at big-box retailers like Target, Amazon, and Way fair that actually hold up to designer scrutiny. I didn’t just want a home that looked good in photos. Besides this, wanted a home that felt curated, soulful, and expensive, without the financial stress. Decor in Dimes is the culmination of everything I’ve learned.

3. Living Room Layouts (Expert Authority): We solve “impossible” floor plans. From arranging narrow living rooms to maximizing awkward corners, we provide the blueprints for a home that feels curated and soulful.
Why Trust Maren Cole? (The E-E-A-T Standard)
In an era of AI-generated “slop,” I pride myself on Experience and Expertise. I don’t just “curate” links; Just live this. In short, I test these projects in my own home. Physically visit the retailers I mentioned, and I sit on the budget sofas to test their durability before, I ever recommend them to you.
The Maren Promise:
“I never accept payment for “positive” reviews. If a product is featured on this site, it is because it meets the strict Maren Quality Standard: it must look expensive, feel durable, and cost a “dime” compared to its luxury counterpart”.
